paul_kaufmansAges 10 to 95 Enjoy Golf Together

What we love most about the game of golf... how many sports can this many generations enjoy together!  At age 95, Paul Kaufman regularly walks two 9 hole rounds per week at Liberty Hills.  He's pictured here with his regular foursome:  left to right are Willard King, Paul Kaufman, Keith Landis, and Andrew Landis all of West Liberty.

West Liberty-Salem Golf Team Breaks 22-Year Old School Record

Congratulations to Coach Darrin Leichty and the Tiger golfers who fired a 312 at Prarie View Golf Course (August 14) over Waynesfield-Goshen and New Knoxville.  Ben Rutan was match medalist with a 73.  Ryan Meister shot 75, Derrick Overholt had 81 and T.R. Nisonger 83.  Rounding out the West Liberty team were Ryan Ropp with 83 and Chris White with 84.  The top 4 scores make up the school record with Nisonger's 83 counting as the 4th score since he was higher seeded golfer for WL-S.

The 2009 Tiger golfers broke the previous school record of 313 by the 1987 state qualifying team of Jeff Stillings, Kent Moroe, Travis Thomas and Scott Zerkle.  You might recognize the faces of these talented young golfers as the WL-S golf team calls Liberty Hills Golf Club home and their time on the course this summer shows with their early season success.

Dick Wilgus:  Starter Extraordinaire
He likes to keep busy.  That's an understatement for Dick Wilgus of DeGraff.  Dick's been an invaluable member of our staff at Liberty Hills for about as long as we've been here.  You might see him starting golfers on the first tee, pulling up carts, serving breakfast, or any one of a hundred other small jobs that add up to making a big difference around here.

Retired from DAB (Detroit Aluminum Brass) after 35 years,  Dick enjoys woodworking, hunting, and playing golf.  Many of the beautiful wood fixtures in our pro shop were hand-made by Dick.  He can also bake a mean apple pie.  Next time you're out, say hello to Dick and thank him for his service.

Like so many of his generation, Dick was drafted in 1944 at age 18.

humbleheadshotAgeless Fountain of Youth: Tracy Humble Betters His Age for 100th Time

At 88 years young, longtime member Tracy Humble of West Liberty recently celebrated a golf milestone. He shot a score lower than his age for the 100th time! His playing partners for the notable round of 83 were Bud Overton and Pete Zilles. Tracy's wife Dorothy and family joined the group to celebrate with some "Humble Cake"(no "humble pie" here...).

Tracy's regular golfing group enjoyed the day and have since witnessed this feat again four more times. That's right, he's now up to 104 rounds better than his age. So now we know, the secret of golf... it gets easier as you get older... at least it seems to work that way for Tracy Humble.
